Pos 2 is a drift dive along the north wall of Menjangan Island, named after the second ranger post on the National Park boundary. When the current is running it’s one of Menjangan’s most exciting dives — you let the wall do the work and watch for larger fish moving through the blue. When the current is mild, the same stretch becomes a relaxed cruise past gorgonians, soft corals, and the kind of reef structure Menjangan is known for. Either way, this is the site we recommend to divers who want to practice drift technique with a clear bottom reference and reliable conditions.
The wall drops cleanly into deep water, so the marine life mix is broader than at sites like Coral Garden — you’ll see reef fish on the wall and pelagics passing in the blue. Schools of fusiliers and jacks are common, and trevally hunt along the edge in the early morning. Common sightings include:
Divers practising drift technique, advanced students working through the SSI Drift Diving specialty, and anyone wanting reliable pelagic encounters. Not the right site for absolute beginners on a first Menjangan day — the depth and the variable current need a baseline of comfort. We brief drift technique on the boat and use surface marker buoys (SMBs) on every drift dive here. Photographers with experience in current shooting will find the wall’s vertical lines and passing pelagics make for dynamic compositions that are hard to replicate at calmer sites.
Pos 2 is best in the dry season (April–November) when the current is more predictable. Slack tide gives a relaxed dive; running tide gives the drift experience. Either is fine — we plan the dive to the conditions on the day, briefing the team on the boat before kitting up. The site sits inside West Bali National Park, so a park entrance fee applies (already included in our Menjangan day-trip prices). Sundays and public holidays carry a small park surcharge. Our 1:4 guide-to-diver ratio and use of SMBs means drift dives stay organised even when the current picks up.
