Pemuteran sits on Bali’s tranquil northwest coast, about 130 km from the airport and Bali’s busy south. Here are the routes most divers take to reach us — and how we can help arrange the ride.
Six common starting points. We can arrange transfers from any of them — just message on WhatsApp when booking.
About 4 hours by car, 130 km on the scenic central-mountain route through Bedugul and the Bratan lake temples, descending to Lovina before running west along the north coast for the final stretch. A private driver is the most popular option — comfortable, door-to-door, and flexible on stops. We can arrange pickup directly: just message us on WhatsApp when booking.
From Ubud, the most direct route runs north through Bedugul, past the Bratan lake temples, and down to the north coast at Lovina. From Lovina it is a straightforward run west along the coast road to Pemuteran. Private driver is the easiest option; expect roughly 3 hours including a coffee or photo stop in the highlands.
Coming from East Java, take the Ketapang to Gilimanuk car ferry. Crossings run every 30 minutes, 24 hours a day. The sailing takes around 45 minutes; pay in Indonesian rupiah cash. From Gilimanuk it is about 45 minutes east along the north coast road to Pemuteran. Driver-and-car combinations from Surabaya, Banyuwangi, and Bromo can be arranged on request.
The easiest route to us. Lovina sits on the same north coast road as Pemuteran, due east. A direct private car takes around an hour. Many travellers split a Bali trip between dolphins-and-waterfalls in Lovina and diving in Pemuteran, with a quick afternoon transfer in between.
Amed sits on Bali’s east coast. The drive west and around the north coast through Singaraja and Lovina takes around 3.5 hours by private car. Convenient if you are basing on the east coast for the USS Liberty wreck at Tulamben and want to add Pemuteran and Menjangan to your trip.
From Seminyak, Canggu, or Sanur, allow 4 to 4.5 hours by private car. Two main routes: north through Bedugul (scenic, mountain), or west via Tabanan and Negara before turning north to the coast (flatter, sometimes faster outside school hours). Your driver will pick the better option on the day.
Six things worth knowing before you travel to North West Bali.
Google Maps tends to underestimate drive times on the central-mountain route. Bedugul, Bratan, and the descent to Lovina are slower than they look on the map. Add 30 to 60 minutes of buffer.
Walk-up taxis at Denpasar Airport will quote much higher rates for the long drive to Pemuteran than a pre-booked private driver. Message us before you fly and we will organise it.
The Ketapang to Gilimanuk crossing is paid in Indonesian rupiah cash at the dock. Card payment is unreliable. Have small notes ready for foot passengers, or pay your driver if you are crossing with a vehicle.
Arriving in Pemuteran after dark on roads you don’t know is stressful. Aim to leave south Bali by mid-morning so you arrive before sunset. If you land late, consider a night near the airport and travel the next morning.
The Bedugul highlands have temples, lake views, and a strawberry farm. Many guests build a half-day stop into the transfer rather than a straight drive. Tell your driver in advance.
We arrange private transfers from anywhere in Bali (and Java) at fair, fixed rates. WhatsApp is the fastest way to get a quote.
